"The Diamond T, 12-ton prime mover, M20, was originally designed to meet a British requirement for tank transporting and recovery. It was introduced in 1940/41 and first saw active service with the British Army in North Africa. Later it was also used by the US Army. IT featured a 20-ton winch and a ballast body behind the cab. From August, 1943, these vehicles were fitted with an open-type cab and provision for AA mg ring mount, M36.
There were two models: 980 and 981, The 980 had a 300-ft winch cable and two winch-able sheaves at rear: the 981 had a 500-ft winch cable, three cable sheaves at rear and a roller assembly in the front bumper, allowing the winch cable to be paid out from the front of the vehicle."
Det sägs på annan plats:
"....the Diamond T M20...... were extensively used by civilian contractors for heavy haulage, especially in the Western Europe."
