Since 1963, Volvo sells trucks in France and now they reach about 5500/5800 trucks per year. The dealers are mixed, private ans branches.I am now retired from Januar 2010 and own 2 veterans, one TN 88 from 1968 and a Trygge LV 430 from 1963 which I got in Swiss.I also have brochures and models. My TN 88 with seldom sleepercab, was it a Volvo construction or subcontractor ?
The cab is built by G,Nyström in Umeå, northern Sweden. This cabbuilder begin with steelframed cabs in the late 50`s. Today the factory is owned by Volvo, and manufactures cabs for all Volvos models.
I was as a sailor in Rouen for the first time in 1958. I was very impressed by the french, Bernard, Saviem, Berliet and Unic lorrys which all had pipes and svivels for controling the tyre pressure. Also, the french lorrys were loading much more than the Volvos and Scania-Vabises at home, the sides of the loading space of grawel trucks had the double height compared to the swedish trucks. At that time the acepted axle load in the Sundsvall area was 6 metric tons. I supose the axle load was 10 or 11 tons in France and the tyres of that days needed control of the tyre pressure.
The axle limit was 13 Tons at that time , but a lot of people loaded more than the law ! If you want to see pictures of old french trucks ,my son has a website with pictures and history in English : www.ifrance.com/oldfrenchtrucks/ Nowadays ,we only have Renault trucks which is in Volvo group...
The truck is from 1972 and was first used for fish transport accross West of France and Paris.Later a show man bought it and owned it during a lot of time.In May the truck was sold to a meat transport company who wishes to restore it as they used such F 88 in the past.
