"The Diamond T 12-ton prime mover, M20, was originally designed to meet the British requirements for tank transporting and recovery. It was introduced in 1940/41 and first saw active service with theBritish Army in North Africa. Later it was also used by the US Army. It featured a 20-ton winch and a ballast body behind the cab. From August, 1943, these vehicles were fitted with an open-type cab (liknar den öppna hytten på bl.a GMC CCKW fast större. min anmärkning) and provision for AA mg ring mount, M36.
There were two models: 980 and 98. The 980 had a 300-ft winch cable and two winch-cable roller sheaves at rear; the 981had a 500-ft winch cable, three cable sheaves at rear and a roller assembly in the front bumper, allowing the winch cable to be paid out from the front of the vehicle."
